After the laying of the foundation stone in 1893, the Rhine Church in Duisburg-Homberg was completed in 1895 in the Neo-Gothic style and opened as a Protestant church. The building was severely damaged during the Second World War, but reopened in 1948 after extensive renovations. Further renovations took place in the 1960s, but since 1994 the church has only been used for special occasions. The last service was held on November 20, 2016, after which the church was deconsecrated. In April 2022, the church was rededicated for its new purpose.
