Halle Pajol by JAP Architectes is a mixed-use sustainable rehabilitation project of 2014 in France, Paris. While use before did serve as a former railway warehouse with a significant metallic framework, the transformation of 2014 provided a self-contained wooden structure housing a youth hostel, library, and shops beneath the original roof, increasing the usable surface area from a derelict industrial shell to 9,600 m² of positive-energy interior space.
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by acting as a "manifesto" for timber rehabilitation, proving that historical metallic structures can be repurposed as "parasols" for new, high-performance wooden buildings. By integrating a massive rooftop solar array, Canadian wells, and thick super-insulated facades, it achieves a positive energy balance while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of urban renewal in a dense city center.
